Packing List

What to Bring:

The following items are weather and individual preference dependent. Make your own decision on which specifics to bring based on your own comfort and in light of the weather. The items below are suggestions.

Head:

  • Brimmed hat (for sun protection)

Upper Body:

  • Light/mid-weight base layer shirt

  • Mid-weight long sleeve shirt

  • Soft-shell jacket, water-proof down jacket, or equivalent

Lower Body:

  • Long underwear

  • Fleece, wool, or nylon pants/shorts

  • Skivies

Feet:

  • Comfortable hiking shoes with aggressive tread or backpacking boots (closed toe)

  • Backup footwear (in case we get wet while hiking)

  • Wool socks

Sleep:

  • Pillow

  • Sleeping bag, or sheets and a comforter, for a twin bed

Personal:

  • Reusable water bottles (2+ Liters)

  • Personal toiletries, shower soap

  • Medications

  • Bath towel

  • Headlamp or flashlight - one with red light is ideal for night hiking

  • Comfortable clothes for daily wear

  • Backpack for day trips

  • Sunscreen

  • Sunglasses

Other:

  • Comfort snacks for hikes/outdoor experience and/or classroom sessions

  • Tupperware and utensil

  • Money for stops on the way to and from Capitol Reef

  • Required readings

1500: Depart from UVU
1630: Scipio Pit stop - come with your dinner packed (15 minute stop)
1900: Craig Childs speaks at Entrada Institute
2130: Arrive at Capitol Reef Field Station + Set Up
2200: Orientation to Field Station
       
 

Saturday:
